What does loafward mean?
The word loafward is a combination of the two elements behind contemporary English lord and refers to a person who guards or wards the loaf [of bread] in a household. This is a complement to the Old English hlǣfdīġe "loaf + kneader" which developed into our modern word lady, with the second element -dīġe also related to the word dough.
